We had a good talk with Edd Sorensen from Cave Adventurers the other day. There is a young girl still alive today because of Edd’s quick response to an emergency this week. Openwater divers entered a cave and Edd came to the rescue to save a life. Great job!

7/19/12. I talked to Marissa at Cave Country Dive Shop in High Springs. The spring flows are increasing and the river waters are receding. Ginnie has reopened the main spring – Ginnie or the Ballroom to all divers and the Devil’s system has reopened to full cave divers only. Little River is still closed but the water has receded to the point that…[Read more]

7/13/12 Just talked to Cathy at Dive Outpost. Peacock is still closed. She says the water level of the Suwannee at the blue bridge across Hwy 51 is at 28.8 feet. At 27 feet the springs begin to back flow so we have a way to go before Peacock and the other springs will reopen so keep checking back.

7/9/12 Just got a report from Ginnie Springs. It seems there is a possibility Ginnie and Devil’s will be open for diving by the weekend. Keep checking back. The Suwannee didn’t crest as high as expected and the Santa Fe is draining fast. The bathrooms are dry and the parking lot is drying. They’re even talking about the possibility of the…[Read more]

Just got a report from Cathy at Dive Outpost. The Santa Fe has crested and should begin to recede. The Suwannee is almost there but will take a little longer. She said the folks down at Ginnie are going to reevaluate the situation around July 9th or 10th and something may change there. As of now pretty much everything’s closed. Always call ahead…[Read more]

6/27/12 Looking for a cave dive this weekend? Frank at Cave Adventurers in Marianna says it’s business as usual. They didn’t get that much rain so the Mill Pond is at normal levels. Conditions are fine in the caves with up to 150 feet of viz. Diving is open!

6/27/12 Called Marissa at Cave Country Dive Shop for a springs report today. The rivers are all rising and most springs are backing up. Peacock, Little River, Madison Blue and Manatee are all closed. Ginnie is still open to full cave but the viz is deteriorating rapidly. Check with a shop up there before you drive up and post your reports here.

Cinco De Mayo at Weeki Wachee was a lot of fun with some fantastic steak and chicken fajitas made by chef Gibby. Things went well but in this type of activity things don’t always go as planned. The mineral sampling went smoothly but the exploration dive was cut short by equipment configuration issues. The night ended with some good food and good…[Read more]

I’m headed out to Weeki Springs tomorrow to work with Karst Underwater Research http://karstunderwaterresearch.org/ on the 2012 exploration project. This weekend promises a lot of progress and we’ll be in the water from early afternoon Sat. until probably mid-morning on Sunday. I’ll post updates as they are available.

Looks like I’ll be diving this weekend in the springs of the Florida Panhandle. I plan on visiting Vortex Spring, Morrison Spring and then going over to Ponce DeLeon and checking in with Cave Adventurers to dive Merritt’s Mill Pond. Anybody else out this way get in touch and we’ll go dive.
