For a nostalgic look I shot a photo in Black and White when I went by and saw the US Coast Guard Cutter Mohawk. The American Flag flying from her stern is a nice touch.

The Mohawk left the dock today to be towed out in preparation for sinking scheduled for 11:00am Monday, July 2nd. I’ll be aboard the VIP, Friends, and Family boat shooting video. Look for it on Monday evening.

6/27/12 Looking for a cave dive this weekend? Frank at Cave Adventurers in Marianna says it’s business as usual. They didn’t get that much rain so the Mill Pond is at normal levels. Conditions are fine in the caves with up to 150 feet of viz. Diving is open!

The guys with Reefmakers are on schedule to sink the US Coast Guard Cutter Mohawk as the newest artificial reef. Sinking is scheduled for July 2nd. We posted an update article complete with pictures in the news section. I’m making plans to be on board either a support boat or a private boat to watch it go down and bring back video.

6/27/12 Called Marissa at Cave Country Dive Shop for a springs report today. The rivers are all rising and most springs are backing up. Peacock, Little River, Madison Blue and Manatee are all closed. Ginnie is still open to full cave but the viz is deteriorating rapidly. Check with a shop up there before you drive up and post your reports here.

I’m in Ft. Myers Beach this week and will post some pictures of the Mohawk that will soon be the new wreck dive here.

It’s fantastic that the Ft. Myers area is getting an historical new ship wreck to dive. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of the Mohawk scheduled for sinking in July.

Dove Lake Jocassee with Lake Jocassee Dive Shop 5/19/2012. Did the Cemetery, The Junk and did a short drop off the wall. Cool dives but dark, low viz and 53 degree water. Here’s a pic of one of the tombstones.

Cinco De Mayo at Weeki Wachee was a lot of fun with some fantastic steak and chicken fajitas made by chef Gibby. Things went well but in this type of activity things don’t always go as planned. I’m headed out to Weeki Springs tomorrow to work with Karst Underwater Research http://karstunderwaterresearch.org/ on the 2012 exploration project. This weekend promises a lot of progress and we’ll be in the water from early afternoon Sat. until probably mid-morning on Sunday. I’ll post updates as they are available.
